Uses

Mosaics can be utilized beautifully both indoors and outdoors. Many uses for indoors include the decorations floors and walls of entry ways, hallways, dining areas, floor center of living rooms, above the fire place, in an archway or just as a focal point inside the home. For outdoors, many people use mosaic on table tops, pools and garden areas. Our mosaic art works are a great alternative to paintings and photographs, giving the space around you a sense of authenticity that cannot be felt using any other art work or decoration.

Historically, baths has been a very popular location to place mosaic due to its ability to withstand water and humidity, unlike other art forms.

Installation

We recommend that installation be done by an experienced professional tile setter.

The installation surface should be made level, clean and free of dirt and grease. Proper substrate should be used especially for flooring and shower installations. This will insure that your investment in a mosaic will be guarded against structural faults and water damage. Plywood substrate may require a bonding agent. A white thin set mortar should be used and applied with a 1/8th to ¼ inch notched trowel. Using grey mortar will stain light colored marble when it is absorbed in the bonding process. If your installation is on a vertical surface that will not be in contact with water, tile mastic may be used for the installation in place of mortar. Once installed, your mosaic will need to be sealed with a high quality stone sealer and color enhancer. This should be done both before and after grouting. Sealing the mosaic before grouting will protect the stone from discoloration and staining when installing dark colored grout. Because of the minimal spacing between the tesserae only non-sanded grout should be used.

Due to the nature of a hand crafted product you may experience some level of unevenness in the mosaic surface. This and non uniform spacing between the tesserae is not considered undesirable, but rather the sign of a truly hand crafted mosaic.

Your mosaic can also be brought to a high luster by grinding and polishing with a series of diamond impregnated polishing wheels.

Regardless of your installation type, we recommend reading and strictly following the adhesive manufacture's directions. Furthermore we can not accept any responsibility for materials not properly installed.

Care

Like all natural stone finishes care should be given when cleaning your mosaic. A specialized cleaner for marble and stone should be used. Harsh chemicals and abrasives will cause damage to the stone and should be avoided. It is best that the final rinse after cleaning be done with clean water only, and dried with a clean soft cloth. Proper care is an important part of preserving any stone surface and will assure a life time of beauty and satisfaction.

Install on the wall or on the ceiling

The Mosaic is supplied directly from the factory, glued to a fiber mesh backing, ensuring that each of the hand-cut marble mosaic tiles remains firmly in place during shipment.

We will ship our mosaic rolled like a carpet. You just have to unroll it upon unpacking.

Installation of the Mosaic is carried out in a similar manner as installing standard ceramic tiles. Although there is not the need for the Mosaics to be installed by a professional we would recommend this for larger Mosaics.

To install it on the wall or on the ceiling, you can glue it to a wood panel and fix the wood panel to the wall.

STEP 1 Remove the paper backing from the mosaic and gently remove any excess glue.

STEP 2 Install Floor or Wall Tile Adhesive to the area in which the mosaic is to be installed.

STEP 3 Place and level the Mosaic into the Tile Adhesive, utilizing a wooden block to even the level of the Mosaic Tiles.

STEP 4 After 24hrs, apply Tile Grout to the Mosaic, removing any access grout with a damp cloth prior to in drying.

STEP 5 Once the Tile Grout is dry, apply a Marble Tile Sealant (available from most leading DIY stores) to the Mosaic to seal the marble and bring out the individual characteristics of each tile.

STEP 6 Enjoy the life-long beauty of your very own, individual Marble Mosaic.
